Images inspired by the ironwork of the Saint-Jean church in Dole (Jura, France).
The Saint-John church in Dole is a concrete church inaugurated in 1960. Designed by the architectural office of André David in Saint-Claude (Jura). The project appears to be by Anton Korady, a recent graduate of the Paris Architecture School who works at David's office. Suspended from two reinforced concrete buttress arches, the monument is a jewel of the concrete art of the years 1945-80. In addition, the designers imagined translucent stained glass windows that were much luminous than historiated windows. The religious message -the Apocalypse of Saint John- is then transmitted by the ironwork that protects the stained glass windows on the outside. Magnificent work of cutting and welding by Maurice Calka, sculptor of Polish origin. I could not resist the desire to transpose into color the colossal forces announced in the sacred text and so well sublimated in the metal -it must be done !- by this inspired sculptor.
