Thanks to Jacques Corbion, engineer, hard worker and scholar who accepted to guide us several times. Jacques is the author of the glossary "le savoir fer", a colossal work on the vocabulary of the steel industry in 4 volumes. Here :
Jacques Corbion-Le savoir fer
Jacques Corbion opened his library to us and took us to the sites of Sérémange and Algrange as well as to the museums of the Iron Mines of Neufchef and Aumetz ("Ecomusée des mines de fer de Lorraine Neufchef Aumetz"). The museum of Neufchef has put at our disposal black and white photographs of the years 1900-1920. It has authorized us to photograph and freely use a lot of them. Many thanks. I took in my heart the glances of these missing workers who pose freely or forced. The Lorraine of the twentieth century supported an organizational effort of Titans that mixed in the same history men, women, employees, executives, managers, territories colonized by factories and hills pierced by galleries. So I mixed the photographs of before, the photographs of today, the time of the mine and the fire, the time of greatness (prestigious buildings) and the time of the abandoned ruins (part of the previous ones) in the large drawing that follows (2.4 x 3.3 m) to express a link, the one that holds together men and women of all conditions and innumerable, the link of work for a project. The question of the the project nature can obviously be discussed. For those whose silhouettes you can identify in the images below, it is too late. It is done.
