This short series was presented in the historical and nice hall of the Hotel Despringles in Dijon in 2019 as part of the festival Les Nuits d'Orient (Middle East Nights). This exhibition, initiated by Marie-Chantal Frère-Sautot (curator, archaeologist and traveler) and Martine Boutillon (scholar and traveler) introduced the public to women travelers who wrote about their experience of the Middle East between the 18th and 20th centuries. The strictly graphic part (here limited) being by myself, Teorg Maelbergs. The graphic and pedagogical exhibition was accompanied by several lectures by the two initiators of this exhibition/conference. A severe selection, necessarily painful, led us to evoke only : 1) Lady Wortley Montagu, XVIIIe siècle, 2) Ida Pfeiffer, XIXe siècle, 3) la Baronne Wolfradine von Minutoli, XIXe (site en Allemand), 4) Suzanne Voilquin, XIXe, 5) Louise Colet, XIXe, 6) Cristina Trivulzio di Belgiojoso, XIXe, 7) Carla Serena, XIXe, 8) la cavalière Anna Blunt, XIX-XXe, les incroyables (9 et 10) Freya Stark, XXe siècle et Gertrud Bell, XXe, Ella Maillart, XXe, 12) Odette du Puigaudeau, XXe, ainsi que 13) Martine Bouquerel, XX-XXIe siècles, which, unlike the previous ones, does not transmit its experience through the text, but through delicate and sometimes powerful watercolors.
During the exhibition, the writer Maïssa Bey took time with us. Hence a graphic design, apparently irrelevant, which is addressed to her.
